Visits and events

THE SOCIETY ORGANISES VISITS and events during the summer months – for members and their guests – to country houses and other Georgian buildings, many of them not normally open to the public.

By special arrangement members also have the opportunity to join in activities offered by other organisations. In 2019 these include the following:

Collecting and Recollecting: Defoe’s Survival Guide to Exile - a lecture by Prof. Barbara Benedict given as the keynote lecture of the Defoe Society Conference Crusoe at 300 on 12 July 2019. This lecture is sponsored by the York Georgian Society in memory of our late chairman Ian Small.

Visits and activities organised by the Friends of York Art Gallery. These include a visit to Dublin in May 2019. For more information about these events go to the Friends of York Art Gallery website and click on the event for details. Normal gallery admission charges apply.

Georgian Group events

The YGS Summer Programme is circulated to members in February.
